Your Student Username and Password

You will need to use your personal username and password to access your email and other important University web sites such as Access Adelaide and MyUni. These are also required when you login into desktop computer systems located on campus. You will also have a unique email address which others will use to send you email.

Details on staff usernames and passwords are available here

Your Student Username

Your student username is in the format "axxxxxxx" where xxxxxxx is the 7 digits that form your student number. Check your student card for this number. For example, if your student number is 1234567, then your username is a1234567.

If you are also a staff member then you must read the section which provides details about your staff username and password.

Your Student Password

All students have been initially allocated an 8-character password. If you are a new student, your password appears at the bottom of the letter from the Vice Chancellor that was included in your enrolment pack.

Your password is valuable to you. Treat it as carefully as your credit card PIN.

  • Users are responsible for all activity initiated from their accounts
  • Users must select passwords that cannot be easily guessed.
  • Users must not divulge passwords to others, including other staff and students.
  • Users are not permitted to authorise others to login using their account.
  • If the security of a password is compromised, it must be changed immediately.
  • Passwords should be changed regularly.
  • Users are prohibited from using another user’s account.
  • Users must not attempt to determine another user’s password.

How Do I Change My Password?

Commencing students should change their password the first time they use their University username.

You should not change your password using the Web Mail Account Manager utility.

This will only temporarily change your Web Mail password and not your password to other important services such as Access Adelaide.

You should change your password by first logging into Access Adelaide and then use the Personal/Change Password menu item there. This will also update your Web Mail and network access passwords.

Please note that these password changes will not take affect for about 30 minutes. DO NOT change your password in Access Adelaide or elsewhere during this time.

Please also read the Guidelines for Choosing Secure Passwords

Forgotten Your Password or it Doesn't Work Anymore?

As you password is valuable to you the University will not provide information or update passwords over the phone.

If you have forgotten your password or have difficulties logging into your account, please visit the Student Centre with photo identification.  Your password can then be updated immediately and will be available for you to use after one hour. (The Student Centre is located on Level 4 of the Wills building, North Terrace Campus.)

If you are unable to come to the Student Centre in person, contact the Student Centre to have your password posted to the address you have provided to the University.

Your Email Address

When you first log in to the system you will receive a greeting message. This message will include details about your email address.

A student's email address has the format: givenname.familyname@student.adelaide.edu.au

A staff member's email address has the format: givenname.familyname@adelaide.edu.au

Note:
These addresses must be typed exactly as they are given to you.
DO NOT finish with a full-stop.

For example, student Nona Smithsonian, will have the following email address:

    nona.smithsonian@student.adelaide.edu.au

Note:
- In some cases your email address may vary slightly from this format, for example where you have the same given name and family name as someone else. In this case you will be informed of your email address. Typically, the initial of your middle name will be added to your email address, for example nona.j.smithsonian@adelaide.edu.au
- Do not inform anyone of your email address until you have logged in and read your greeting message, so you can be sure of the details.
